Story

Staying at Mother Oak Farms is a magical experience. Visitors have commented on the beautiful starry skies, breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, and the peacefulness here; the total reprieve from the mundane. It's the perfect reprieve from the tolls of the pandemic. Mother Oak Farms is the quintessential escape from the city to the coastal air and breeze and you get both an urban and rural life experience. Mother Oak Farms IS Santa Barbara. Our farm features a nearly 360 degree view of Santa Barbara that includes wild mustard lined hillsides, majestic mountains, UCSB's Storke Tower, the Channel Islands, the Pacific Ocean, the Santa Barbara Mission and St. Anthony's, and the sprawling city below. Here you have it all. You experience earth and land and coastal air and tranquilty. Our guests arrive and find that they don't want to leave this special place. But when/if you do leave the farm you are a quick walk to restaurants and shops and all Santa Barbara has to offer. If you are into birding, bring your camera! If you want to dig your hands in the dirt and make your mark on the land, you can. "Mother" our 250-300 year old oak tree feels your presence and she comforts you beneath her warm embrace. She listens while you talk and somehow you just know that is true. "Owlinor" and "Owliver" our Western Screech Owls poke their heads out of the knock in Mother's highest bough to let you experience the living, breathing entities that reside here along with us. Watch the deer as they waltz by. Constantly marvel at the red-tailed hawks as they soar above. Watch as the Brush Jays bathe in the fountain and California Quail descend by the dozens. And listen to the lonesome coyote howl at night. If you have bikes, you'll want to bring them, although a couple of bikes are available for you here. You are just a fifteen minute bike ride to all that Lower State Street has to offer, and if you like to mountain bike, the Jesusita Trail picks up nearby. Mother Oak Farms is urban interfacing from the north with glorious city, ocean, sunrise and sunset views, and are a mere walking distance to Upper State Street and all city life has to offer. But from the side of the farm that faces the east, the landscape swiftly changes to agricultural land with sweeping hillside, native chaparral and canyons, to the jaw-dropping views of boulders and slabs of sandstone and pines that dot La Cumbre Peak and Figueroa Mountain, both a part of the Transverse Ranges in the Los Padres National Forest notorious for hiking, climbing, and spring wildflowers. From Mother Oak Farms, you have nearly 360 degrees of viewing pleasure that alters and changes as quickly as the fog rolls in with the weather. The Pacific Ocean and mountains are miles away, but feel so close you can almost reach out and touch them. Catch a glimpse of a deer or bobcat, or even a bear or mountain lion, if you are incredibly lucky, or spend a day birdwatching the acorn woodpeckers, brush jays, California quail, and soaring red-tailed and sharp-shinned hawks. At night, you'll hear the lonesome coyote howl or be greeted by the hoot of an owl from within the canopy of Mother Oak. The Mother Oak Farms beehives are being installed very soon. Learn about honey making and how these pollinators increase orchard production. Staying at Mother Oak Farms is a magical experience.
